“But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled. — Matthew 26:56 (ESV)

This verse captures one of the most heartbreaking moments in Jesus’ journey to the cross. In the garden, after His arrest, the disciples—His closest friends—ran away in fear. Only hours earlier, they had promised loyalty. Yet when pressure came, courage disappeared.

Still, Jesus was not surprised.

Even in betrayal, fear, and abandonment, God’s plan was unfolding exactly as foretold. Human weakness did not cancel divine purpose.

That truth is comforting for us today.

There are moments when our faith feels fragile. We may hesitate, fail, withdraw, or struggle to stand firm under pressure. But Matthew 26:56 reminds us that God’s purposes are not defeated by human weakness. Jesus remained faithful even when His followers were not.

The beauty of the Gospel is not that the disciples were perfect—it’s that Jesus loved and restored them anyway.

God is not asking you to be flawless today. He is asking you to keep returning to Him.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for remaining faithful even when Your disciples fled in fear. I confess that there are times when my faith feels weak and inconsistent. Help me trust You more deeply and follow You courageously. Remind me that Your grace is greater than my failures and that Your plans remain steady even when I struggle. Strengthen my heart to stay near to You today. Amen.

Este versículo captura uno de los momentos más desgarradores en el camino de Jesús hacia la cruz. En el huerto, después de Su arresto, los discípulos —Sus amigos más cercanos— huyeron llenos de miedo. Solo unas horas antes, habían prometido permanecer fieles. Pero cuando llegó la presión, el valor desapareció.

Aun así, Jesús no se sorprendió.

Incluso en medio de la traición, el temor y el abandono, el plan de Dios se estaba cumpliendo exactamente como había sido anunciado. La debilidad humana no anuló el propósito divino.

Hay momentos en que nuestra fe se siente frágil. Podemos dudar, fallar, alejarnos o luchar por mantenernos firmes bajo presión. Pero Mateo 26:56 nos recuerda que los propósitos de Dios no son derrotados por la debilidad humana. Jesús permaneció fiel aun cuando Sus seguidores no lo hicieron.

La belleza del Evangelio no es que los discípulos fueran perfectos, sino que Jesús los amó y los restauró de todos modos.

Dios no te está pidiendo que seas perfecto hoy. Te está invitando a seguir regresando a Él.

Ayúdame a confiar más profundamente en Ti y a seguirte con valentía. Recuérdame que Tu gracia es más grande que mis fracasos y que Tus planes permanecen firmes incluso cuando yo lucho.
